“Machine learning is great, it's powerful, but there's more to life than machine learning. By calling on Veltys, our goal was to take a step back. Econometric methods offer different approaches and allow us to explore the concepts of causality and educability. Less commonly used in the industry, we wanted to incorporate this additional insight when it could be useful in addressing our multiple challenges: reducing CO₂ emissions from the company's traditional activities, supporting the development of renewable electricity, and contributing to improved safety. As data scientists, we naturally develop a reflex to maximise our performance metrics. But this econometric approach has taught me to anticipate and think about other essential issues. It's exciting to have such a wealth of tools at our disposal that we can use and combine, rather than always thinking solely in terms of machine learning and generative AI. Veltys a développé pour nous des algorithmes de machine learning et Alphalyr a développé une interface de remontée d’informations user-friendly depuis les magasins. Cela nous a permis de définir des niveaux de démarques pertinents pour les soldes. Le principal avantage de la solution, c’est l’optimisation sous contrainte. Nous pouvons faire varier les contraintes : générer de la marge, ou privilégier l’écoulement de stocks. Nous pouvons définir autant de scénarios que nous le souhaitons, les faire valider par la direction financière et aligner l’ensemble des équipes sur ces objectifs opérationnels, avec les prix affichés dans les magasins pour les atteindre pendant les soldes. We have developed a smart, automated solution to measure the impact of a promotion and suggest the right markdown rate by choosing the best scenarios. Historically, retailers have relied on Excel, which is neither very accurate nor very responsive. It takes an enormous amount of time. Veltys developed machine learning algorithms for us, and Alphalyr developed a user-friendly interface for reporting information from stores. This enabled us to define relevant markdown levels for sales. The main advantage of the solution is optimisation under constraints. We can vary the constraints: generate margin, or prioritise stock clearance. We can define as many scenarios as we want, have them validated by the finance department and align all teams with these operational objectives, with prices displayed in stores to achieve them during the sales. This fruitful and innovative collaboration was recognised with the ‘Best Supplier/Retailer Collaboration’ award at the 9th Nuit du Commerce Connecté (Connected Commerce Night).
